Water Baptism
Water baptism represents faith found in Jesus Christ. It is a Sacrament, or Ordinance of the early church that continues today. It is an outward sign of an inward, indivisible, spiritual reality of faith in Jesus alone for salvation.
Baptism is an act of obedience to the commands of Jesus found in Matthew 28:v19- 20. When a believer is immersed into the waters of baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit it shows in a visible picture the believer’s death to sin, burial of an old life, and the coming up from the water pictures the resurrection to the new life that is in them, and for them by Christ Jesus our Lord.
The ongoing theme of the New Testament with regard to a believer’s baptism takes place in a man, woman boy or girl who is a believer in the saving work of Jesus Christ, declaring a personal identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus for salvation. Baptism does not save you, but because you are converted, born from above, you should be baptized (Romans 1:10, Colossians 2:12, Romans 6 :1-11).
Who should be baptized
All who believe (Acts 8:12, 16:31-34, 18:8, 18:36-38). The believing in Christ Jesus requires repentance, faith, and confession on the part of the one being baptized (Acts 2:38, 22:16, Romans 10:9-10).
In following the pattern of Scripture we believe the person to be baptized is to be immersed in water. John the Baptist immersed Jesus into the waters of baptism. Philip and the eunuch mentioned in Acts 8:38-39 went down into the water.
Baptisms are periodically done when a believer request his or her interest and is followed up by an interview with one of the pastors.
